This painting was inspired by the open farmland of central Indiana, a landscape shaped by glacial activity and the gently rolling formations often called hummocks.
What always interested me about this area was the enormous sense of space... fields stretching toward a horizon that seems almost impossibly far away beneath a constantly changing Midwestern sky.
For me, the painting also represents another step away from Below the Caprock... a little looser, a little more confident, and more willing to let shape, color, and brushwork carry the experience of the landscape.
