The Kettle Cove and Crescent Beach area is one of my favorite places in Maine, so naturally it was one of the first places I wanted to try my hand at plein air painting.
With nature constantly in motion, it turned out to be quite a challenge. The tide was moving out, exposing more rock every few minutes. The clouds were moving quickly across the sky, and the sun shifted from directly in front of me to nearly overhead while I worked.
The seagulls added their own bit of entertainment... apparently tubes of oil paint are more interesting than I would have imagined.
I’ve included a photograph of my setup from that day. Looking at it now brings back some great memories of making the painting.
